about Reiki

what is reiki?

Reiki is based on traditional Eastern concepts of energy systems in the body such as meridians and chakras. Current science and quantum physics describe energy fields (biofields) surrounding living organisms and energy flow through the body’s cells, nervous system, tissues, and organs.

If the energy in our body is weak, blocked, or over-stimulated that may lead to symptoms of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual imbalance. Reiki helps balance and increase beneficial energy levels that are restorative and healing for body, mind, and spirit.

Reiki practitioners work by allowing the energy present within us and around us to flow through themselves to the recipient. The recipient is the one who does the healing by taking in and assimilating the energy as needed.

History

There have been many systems of Reiki healing but do not have a lineage going back to Usui Sensei. Mikao Usui Sensei was the founder of the Usui Reiki healing system in the 1920’s. His method to improve body and spirit was originally designed for the individual then evolved to treat others in his clinics. The Reiki was aiming to not only cure disease but to correct the mind by a God-sent spiritual ability to keep the body healthy and enjoy a welfare of life. The five admonitions recited daily: Don’t get angry, Don’t be grievous, Express your thanks, Be diligent in business, Be kind to others.

Dr. Chujiro Hayashi a student of Usui, became a Reiki Master in 1925 and initiated 13 masters.

Ms. Hawayo Takata received her mastership form Dr. Hayashi in 1938 and trained 22 Reikii Masters in the United States and Canada.

Reiki is passed on from Master to Student through attunements and lineage.

• There are at least 600,000 Reiki Masters in the world today, with 4,000,000 practitioners. Anyone can learn Reiki.

• There are three basic levels of Reiki training and advanced.

• Level one certification (most common) is especially used by caregivers.

• One who receives Reiki training is able to give treatments to themselves, others, and any living thing.

what to expect

The practitioner’s hands are placed lightly on or above the body, using a series of different hand positions. Each position is held for several minutes or until the practitioner feels activity and perceptual change which may be experienced as pulsation, pressure, tingling, or warmth.

Reiki helps to induce the body's relaxation response, leading to a calmer physical and emotional sense of well-being. The recipient might feel warm, sleepy, tingly, or refreshed.

Music assists the body into a state of relaxation, releases endorphins, and ushers in a meditative response. Research verifies the therapeutic value of music which is incorporated as a part of the Reiki experience.

The duration of a Reiki session is typically one hour. The number of sessions depend on needs of the client.
